SUMMARY:First International Workshop on Feature Oriented Software Deve
 lopment (FOSD2009)
DESCRIPTION:\n\nFirst Workshop on Feature-Oriented Software Developmen
 t (FOSD)\n\nin conjunction with MODELS’09, GPCE’09, and SLE’09\n
 \nDenver, Colorado, October 6th, 2009\n\nwith a Keynote by Don Batory\
n\nhttp://www.fosd.de/2009\n\n\nFeature orientation is an emerging par
adigm of software development. It supports the largely automatic gener
ation of large software systems from a set of units of functionality,
so called features. The key idea of feature-oriented software developm
ent(FOSD) is to emphasize the similarities of a family of software sys
tems for a given application domain e.g.,database systems, banking sof
tware, text processing systems) with the goal of reusing software arti
facts among the family members. Features distinguish different members
of the family. A\nchallenge in FOSD is that a feature does not map cl
eanly to an isolated module of code. Rather it may affect ('cut across
') many components/documents of a software system. Research on FOSD ha
s shown that the concept of features pervades all phases of the softwa
re life cycle and requires a proper treatment in terms of analysis, de
sign, and programming techniques, methods, languages, and tools, as we
 ll as formalisms and theory.\n\nhttp://www.infosun.fim.uni-passau.de/c
